Microdermabrasion For Acne – Is It The Right Treatment?

Acne; many teenagers cringe at the word. Doctors and specialists have been searching for years to find a cure for this annoying and frustrating ailment. People with acne have been applying lotions and creams, taking medications and herbs, and searching for the next great cure. Microdermabrasion is another Microdermabrasiontreatment option worth exploring.

In recent years, acne sufferers have been trying microdermabrasion for acne. This procedure is usually done in a spa or spa like environment. It removes dead skin cells that clog the pores. Opening up the pores can reduce the formation of blackheads and decrease acne.

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure used in doctor's offices and spas. It is simple and non-invasive. Microdermabrasion revitalizes the skin, diminishes wrinkles and fine lines, and lessen the appearance of stretch marks and age spots. A technician uses a hand-held device that blows a crystallized substance onto a person' skin. These crystals gently polish the skin before a vacuum tube removes the crystals and the dead skin cells.

The blackheads and acne scars are stripped away through this combination of mild skin abrasion and suction. A fine layer of skin is removed but the skin is not damaged.

One factor you may want to consider before getting microdermabrasion treatments is the cost. The price of a treatment can vary between $50 and $300. If you have moderate to severe acne, one treatment will certainly not eliminate the problem. You may require several treatments. Also, microdermabrasion is usually not covered by your health insurance. Several treatments can add up to a substantial amount of money.

In the literature you will find a few studies done on the effectiveness of microdermabrasion for acne. In one small study utilizing 25 subjects, nicrodermabrasion appeared to be effective. 72% of the subjects showed good or excellent results, while 29% showed fair or poor results. More studies should be completed to give us a better understanding of the effectiveness of microdermabrasion.

It seems that microdermabrasion is best for mild to moderate forms of acne. If you have a more severe form of acne, it might be best to seek other treatments as microdermabrasion may not help. With severe acne, it may possibly make the acne worse.

As you will find with any medicine or treatment, there are a few side effects with microdermabrasion. It may cause temporary mild or moderate redness to the treated area. Your skin may also peel and become blotchy. There have been instances where the skin may become discolored in certain areas.

Microdermabrasion is not a cure for everyone's acne. It doesn't work for all acne sufferers. You need to consider the cost of the treatments, the potential side effects, and the type of acne you have before submitting to this procedure. Microdermabrasion does show promise and should be evaluated further. If you suffer from acne or acne scars, you should talk to your physician to see if microdermabrasion for acne is right for you.
